How did this even start?

Two humans, one idea. Anthony was deep into AI hype at the time — 'it can do everything.' Phil, musician for 30 years and professionally curious, didn’t argue. He set a trap instead: if this thing could produce a track in a genre he actively disliked — and make it groove — then it might be worth taking seriously. A few hours later, there was a frog. And the frog… worked. That was the moment things escalated.

Let’s just say there were already certain long-eared gentlemen hopping around the genre without actually being rabbits. It felt like the right moment for a very real Colombian frog to show up and claim a bit of territory. Less pretending, more croaking.

Who actually makes the music?

We do. Writing, directing, prompting, editing, rebuilding, mixing, mastering. The animals bring identity, chaos, and unreasonable confidence. Behind the scenes, it’s mostly two people trying to turn ideas into records before the ideas mutate into something else.

So… is this all AI?

AI is part of it. Not the whole story. Think of it as a tool that occasionally behaves like a genius and occasionally like a drunk intern. We keep what works, fix what doesn’t, and push everything further than it was meant to go.

Do you just mass-produce tracks with AI?

No. We could. That’s exactly why we don’t. The world is already filling up with disposable music at industrial speed. We’re not interested in flooding it further — we’re interested in finding the few ideas that are worth finishing.

How do your songs actually come together?

There’s no fixed starting point. Sometimes it’s a lyric, sometimes a beat, sometimes just a feeling that refuses to go away. Then artist and track grow together. Who owns this sound? What kind of creature would deliver it without hesitation? From there: test, break, rebuild, refine — until it clicks.

Is this meant to be a joke?

It starts as one. Then we keep working on it until it stops being funny and starts being convincing. That’s usually the moment we decide to release it — and slightly regret how well it works.

Why does this sound… actually good?

Because we treat it seriously. Structure, arrangement, mix decisions — all the boring, necessary things. The difference is that somewhere along the way, a self-declared swamp king demanded more swagger. Again, he was right.

Can AI compete with real productions?

Not yet. And that’s fine. You’ll hear artifacts, strange compression, little imperfections. We see it like old guitar amps humming or single coils picking up noise — part limitation, part character. We push it as far as we can in mixing and mastering, but we don’t pretend it’s something it isn’t.

Of course. The question is whether you still feel the music. Also — unless you believe frogs, octopuses, and crocodiles suddenly developed recording careers overnight — something had to be slightly artificial.

Do you follow a process or is it chaos?

Both. Ideas arrive messy. The work isn’t. We iterate in phases, test styles, pull stems, rebuild arrangements, and refine until the chaos aligns into something that hits.

What happened after the first track?

It came together suspiciously fast. Faster than it should have. That was enough to raise an eyebrow — and enough to say: there’s more here. A few conversations later, there was a label. First Bad Animal Records. Then a slightly better name appeared. ZooTube Records. The rest followed naturally. Too naturally.

What is the Zoo, really?

A place where ideas are allowed to go too far — and are only stopped if they stop working. Not everything survives. The ones that do tend to have teeth.

How seriously do you take this?

Very. We just don’t see the need to look serious while doing it. If anything, the less it looks like work, the more work probably went into it.

ZooTube Records is an independent music label and creative studio based in Málaga, Spain, founded by Phil “Frogfather” Bauch and Anthony-Pascal Lange — two dangerously over-caffeinated humans who decided the world needed more groove, glitter, and questionable life choices in animal form.

ZooTube Records is an independent music label and creative studio founded by Phil Bauch and Anthony-Pascal Lange — two dangerously over-caffeinated humans who somehow turned late-night music experiments into an entire ecosystem of artists, releases and questionable decisions.

What started as a simple creative thought experiment slowly evolved into something much larger: a fictional label universe where animal characters, AI-assisted production, visual storytelling and real music releases collide somewhere between satire, pop culture and genuine artistic obsession.

Thing is: ZooTube was never designed like a traditional label. There was no masterplan. No carefully crafted corporate roadmap. No “next big startup” pitch deck hidden in a coworking space drawer. It grew. Piece by piece. Creature by creature.

One strange song led to another. A frog became a reggaeton artist. A giraffe started screaming over distorted club guitars. A lobster somehow developed aristocratic tendencies. At some point an executive cockroach appeared and nobody remembers approving that either.

Underneath the absurdity, however, sits a very real production philosophy: Every ZooTube release is treated like an actual artist project — written, directed, produced, mixed and visually developed with the same attention to detail found in traditional music production. AI is used as a creative instrument and worldbuilding tool, not as a magical “press button, receive hit song” machine.

The goal is not to imitate reality perfectly. The goal is to create something entertaining, emotionally memorable and creatively alive — somewhere between music label, fictional universe, internet culture experiment and collaborative digital art project.

Some people see parody. Others see a glimpse of where entertainment may eventually be heading.

Honestly, both are probably correct.
